Nurse Amelia Duran

"I was nearly too late. Don't let there be a next time. Eat. Rest. Walk only as far as the courtyard."

Amelia Duran runs the State's field-nurse rotation: when a citizen is reduced to zero hit points during a mission and is recovered alive, it is her team that carries them off the road and her hand that signs the letter the citizen finds in their mailbox the next time they log in.

Role in the World

Like Judge Hope Long, Amelia is a system character - she does not stand at a counter waiting to be talked to. Her only role is the recovery letter that lands in the citizen's mailbox after a fall. Players cannot speak with her, fight her, or trade with her. They will, however, recognize her name immediately the first time the mailbox icon flares red after a mission they remember fainting in.

When Amelia Writes

Amelia's mail fires on a precise condition: the simulator has reported the mission as failed and the character's hit points reached zero during the run. Cron timeouts (a quest that simply expired unfinished) do not summon her - those failures are administrative, and she is a field nurse. She is the friend the player sees after combat, not after paperwork.

When the same fail also triggers a Civic Code consequence, the player receives two letters: the verdict from Judge Long and the recovery note from Amelia. The system makes no apology for that. The State enforces its contracts; the State also patches its citizens up.

Tone

Amelia's letters are short and plain. She does not lecture and she does not glorify the wound. She tells the citizen they were close to dying, that they have been bandaged, and that they should rest and eat before going out again. The recurring sign-off is some variation of "We almost lost you. I am glad we did not."

Recovery Mail Format

Every mail signed by Amelia is a recovery notice. The mailbox renders it as a soft-edged note card carrying:

  • The mission the citizen failed (id and name).
  • The final HP at the moment of fall and the character's max HP, for narrative color.
  • A body drawn from a small library of Amelia's notes; the version sent is chosen at the time of writing and is not regenerated.

There is no claimable reward attached. The note is a courtesy, not a quest hook.
