Article M-903 - Sabotage

"You struck at the works a power depends on. This Court does not offer you a fine."

Where theft takes from a citizen, sabotage takes from everyone who relies on what was broken: the road, the line, the store, the machinery of a faction's economy. The Code treats it as an offense against the many, and answers it accordingly.

The opening term runs to most of a day and the ceiling to a full one. More telling than the length is what the article withholds.

Escalation Under the Recidivism Clause

A second conviction within thirty days doubles the term, a third doubles it again, to the article's ceiling.

On Bail

There is no bail under M-903. The State's position is that sabotage cannot be settled in coin, because what was broken was not the State's to sell. A convict may work the term down through prison shifts, or serve it. They may not buy it.

A citizen convicted under M-903 also carries one of the heaviest marks the watch can read. The roads will know them long after the cell door opens. The full account is in The Roads and the Watch.
