The Reptiles keep the western wetlands, and the Swamp Coil that speaks for them is the one power on the map with no recognition from the others. Not a kingdom, not a republic, not a coalition: a syndicate, and the word is the neighbours' choice rather than their own.
What that means for a Reptile citizen is practical rather than romantic. The ground is theirs and the bench is theirs, the same as anyone's. What is thinner is the paperwork that would make the rest of the world agree.
They are patient in a way the faster races read as slowness, and they are used to being underestimated by them. In the city they work where the water is: locks, drainage, the canal traffic nobody else wants to time.
